The translation is a standard one that first appeared in 1667, although it was shortly thereafter (in 1669) condemned by Clement IX as Jansenist and placed on the Index. “L.M. de Sacy” is the nom de plume of Isaac (“Sacy” being an anagram) de Le Maistre, a reformer of Port-Royal.
