In the preliminary section on Architecture, the engraved scenes are larger. The plates in the Architecture section are signed (in the plate) by H.S. Storer who drew them, and by J. Kendall, who was the engraver. H.S. Storer was James Storer's son and collaborator. James Storer was the artist and engraver who executed the engravings of the cathedrals. His plates are not signed. James Sargant Storer, born in Cambridge in 1771, worked at drawing and engraving old English buildings and other antiquarian subjects. For some years he was associated with John Greig, another topographical artist. From 1814 he worked wholly in conjunction with his eldest son, Henry Sargant Storer. He died in London in 1853. Storer was distinguished for his extreme accuracy and beauty of finish and often exhibited at the Academy. Condition: All of the contents of the 4 volumes, text blocks and engravings, are in Very Good or Near Fine condition, the only defects being occasional light foxing, or infrequent moderate foxing of margins. All plates are of high quality with well defined indented borders. Many of the (originally) loose tissue paper separators appear to be lacking, but all of the text blocks and plates are complete and intact. There is occasional light to moderate foxing of the blank margins of the plates. Many of the plates are not foxed and most of the remainder have only very light or light marginal foxing. Only a few have moderate foxing. All bindings are very tight. Condition of covers: Volume 1. Moderate Shelfwear, worn corners and some edgewear, rear board is detached, some cracking along external joint of rear board which is firmly attached. Good to Very Good- with a large chip of leather at lower spine and a very small chip at upper spine. Light soil, edge and corner wear. Tight binding Volume 4 Very Good- covers with edge and corner wear, slight chipping at bottom of spine, slight cracking and rubbing of leather along external joints, light soil. Tight binding. This applies to any address in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as to APO addresses. Media Mail, available only for domestic shipping, is trucked to its destination, and shipped by boat to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, On the average it takes 3 to 10 days to arrive, depending on the distance and the vagaries of the US Postal Service. Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, APO and other off-shore addresses take longer to arrive. During the pre-Christmas season, Media Mail is subject to delays. When filling out the Ebay Detailed Seller Ratings, please keep in mind that the sometime slow arrival is due to the performance of the Postal Service and not to any tardiness on the part of the seller. For expedited domestic mailing, Priority Mail shipping can be arranged at an additional cost. For most books, we charge between two and nine dollars for this service, including delivery confirmation and insurance. For heavy sets or high-value books, the charge may be higher. INTERNATIONAL For international shipping, we urge bidders to request quotes of shipping costs before bidding. We will also specify international shipping options and prices after the conclusion of the auction. We will try to provide a range of options but buyers should be aware that all shipments are via air mail and shipping of heavy books can be expensive. COMBINED SHIPPING For international transactions, combined shipping of multiple lots can substantially reduce postage. This is especially the case for M-Bag shipments of up to 11 lbs and for multiple volumes that will fit into a single Priority Mail flat rate box. For the above options, the postage rate is fixed independently of the weight. INSURANCE All of our domestic shipments are fully insured. Insurance of international shipments to most countries is available at a very reasonable cost. This insurance is optional and shipments to some countries cannot be insured. Payment : No credit cards except through PayPal. Paypal payments should be in US Dollars but Euros are also acceptable if prior agreement is obtained. As of October 2008, Ebay is imposing the requirement that all payments be made via Paypal. We understand that this requirement may be a problem to some of our customers and we will do our best to accommodate their needs.     Affordable Auction Management and Image Hosting Solutions @ inkFrog view my other auctions below:   visit my entire auction showcase
