Description : The Writings Of Mark Twain The Definitive Edition Gabriel Wells New York 1922 Description: Hard Cover. Thirty-Seven Volumes Complete Signed Limited Edition Number 838 of 1024. 1922-1925. Signed by Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens on the fly leaf with statement on facing page: "This fly-leaf was signed by Mark Twain in 1906 in anticipation of the present definitive edition of his works." Statement is signed by Albert Bigelow Paine. Thirty-seven volumes in cloth with leather spine labels with titles and volume numbers in gilt. All are very good to near fine with gilt page tops and very nice quality paper. Each volume has 3-4 illustrations by some of the most famous illustrators of his works: Howard Pyle, Peter Newell, etc. The spines have some light sunning and there is some variation in the color of the leather spine pieces. Bindings and hinges are all excellent. Interiors clean and bright. Bound into volume one of this set is a letter from Samuel Clemens in his own hand and also an envelope with Clemens' return address printed in the upper left corner. The letter's subject matter appears to make reference to the publishing or editing of an article or other publication. Please see photos. This letter alone is worth well over $2,000.00.
