I have been dissatisfied with the price of bookbinding equipment for the novice book binder or extra ones for the pro to use. This is my answer. It is made of hardwood plywood covered with a waterproof high pressure plastic laminate covering (like that used on kitchen countertops). The laminate makes the surfaces easy to clean and they won't warp or become rough from moisture.  Edges are sanded and sealed with carnuba paste wax so glue won't stick.   NOTE:  The color of the laminate may be different than the picture as I use excess stock from my shop. The inside dim. are:Front to back 11-1/4"Side to side between bolts 12-3/4"Daylight 5"The bolts are 3/8" with wingnuts and run through copper bushings in the upper platen so there is no binding. Also included are springs to hold up the upper platten while you are positioning the book in the press and 2 acrylic rods to make the hinge groove. You can't get much simpler than this! Nice and portable for classes and demonstrations! I can make larger or smaller sizes if you are interested. Also, I make a sewing frame, a bookpress/sewing frame combination unit, and a finishing press.
